MEET THE FOUNDER

Buggy Valhouli is a New York-based designer who founded her namesake brand, Buggy NYC, in the fall of 2018. The brand is a reflection of Buggy's lifelong passion for design, which began when she launched her first clothing and accessories business at just 13 years old.

Buggy draws inspiration from her Art History studies at the University of St. Andrews and the summers spent with her family in Greece. She continues to incorporate elements from her dissertation on the costume design of the Ballet Russes, as well as the archives of the Benaki Museum in Athens, both renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship and rich color palettes.

By combining elements of her Greek heritage into her collections produced by artisans from India to Peru, Buggy celebrates the dignity, beautiful aesthetics and heritage of distinct cultures around the world, through the prism of her life in New York City.

Buggy dedicates several months each year to traveling the globe, working alongside skilled artisans to source the finest weavers, dyers, and embroiderers to bring her hand-painted prints to life. Her mission is to create pieces that seamlessly transition from vibrant metropolitan streets to the enchanting cobbles of a sun-kissed island, infusing everyday life with a sense of adventure and celebration.

Artisan crafted, intricately detailed treasures for the unhurried journey.

FILOTEMO

φιλότιμο

“Embodying respect, gratitude, and the courage to stand up for what’s right, filotemo is a guiding principle for us at Buggy, rooted in my Greek culture. It reflects our commitment to honoring heritage and kindness in every partnership we nurture.”

ETHOS

OUR ESSENCE

In a celebration of craftsmanship and human touch, the world of Buggy reflects the beauty of imperfection and the tactile interplay of cultures and palettes. The spirit results in the feeling of a dance - between the warmth of the familiar meeting the surprise of the unexpected.

GLOBAL CRAFTSMANSHIP

We’ve traveled the globe, from India to Mexico and South America, to find the most talented artisans for our pieces. We work closely with women from small villages, who master ancestral techniques like knitting, weaving, and embroidery, passed down through generations.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, and as a fashion company, we are always looking for new ways to improve. We carefully select eco-conscious factories, ensuring each product leaves a minimal ecological footprint while supporting both social and environmental sustainability.

ETHICAL PRODUCTION

We partner with family-owned factories to support sustainable livelihoods and preserve dying arts. Our commitment to ethical production means we ensure fair wages for artisans, with all factories adhering to ILO practices and certified by Sedex, GOTS, and Fair Trade.

NATURAL FABRICS

We prioritize using natural fabrics like cotton, silk, and wool for their biodegradability, breathability, and comfort in our SMETA-certified factories. When necessary, we incorporate small amounts of semi-synthetic, recycled materials to enhance longevity and reduce wasteful replacements.

ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES

Our family-owned workshops run on solar energy and utilize rainwater conservation techniques. We prefer using natural fabrics and handwork over machine work whenever possible, ensuring a more sustainable and thoughtful approach to production.
